Bio

Cecilia Damström (b. 1988) is a Finnish composer whose music has been performed around the world, from the United States to South Korea. She has become known as a versatile voice, moving with ease between chamber music, choral works and children's operas, all the way to major works for symphony orchestra.

Cecilia Damström's creative work is grounded in an awareness of the environment and its wellbeing, together with a capacity for empathy. In everything she creates, she seeks to make listeners understand how essential it is for humanity to care for its surroundings and to see humans as equal among other beings, not above them. She has been called the Greta Thunberg of music, and considers herself an activist who pursues her goals through music. She has deepened her academic background through musicology and gender studies, concluding in that she now strives to compose purely from a post-colonialist and post-humanist ecofeminist perspective.
