Samuel Eriksson
Bio
Samuel Eriksson (b. 2001) is a pianist and clarinettist from Turku, currently studying at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. In 2025 he won the national Tampere Piano Competition, opening up new opportunities for both his career and his artistic development. He is committed to growing as a musician, both technically and intellectually, and looks forward to upcoming artistic projects at home and abroad.
Samuel Eriksson began piano studies at the age of six at the Turku Conservatory under Niklas Pok, and three years later added the clarinet to his musical path under Outi Heiskanen. He is currently completing his Master's degree in piano at the Sibelius Academy under Antti Hotti and Kirill Kozlovsky.
Eriksson has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra — where he once appeared as both pianist and clarinettist on the same evening — Tampere Philharmonic, and the Helsinginkatu Philharmonic. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Finnish Defence Forces Reservists' Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Navy Band, and the Åbo Akademi Orchestra. He has further performed at festivals including Kamarikesä, the Korsholm Music Festival, the Steinway Festival (Hamburg), the Mänttä Music Festival, the Helsingborg Piano Festival, and the PianoEspoo Festival.
Alongside his solo career, Eriksson is an active chamber musician and lied pianist. He has performed and taken part in musical projects around the world, including in Russia, the United States, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, France and Estonia.
Before his success at the 2025 Tampere Piano Competition, Eriksson was recognised at, among others, the national Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition, the international Nordic Piano Competition and Steinway Piano Competition — as well as the Prof. Dichler Competition in Austria in 2020. During eight years of study at the Young Piano Academy, he took part in masterclasses led by internationally renowned pianists including Richard Goode, Nikolai Lugansky, Robert Levin, Claudio Martínez-Mehner and Marc-André Hamelin. Alongside his career as a pianist, Samuel has a strong background as a clarinettist, winning first prize at the national wind instrument competition in Huittinen in 2017.
